A walk in Messa Gonia ("Inside Corner") is an experience - you realize what the earthquake leaves behind, which completely destroyed in 1956 then the prosperous rural village and made the inhabitants move to Kamari. Messa Gonia was one of the biggest wine production centres. Today the visitable canavas (dug-in cellars) reveal something from past greatness. Ôhe first houses already started rebuilding. Visitors bypass usually the village and go directly to the unique attraction, the Church of Panagia Episkopi, the most important Byzantine monument of the island. At the entrance of the village, it worths to stop and visit the wineries for wine tasting.
