CULTURAL CENTRE MEGARO GYZI
The Cultural Centre Megaro Gyzi was founded in 1980 with the initiative and financial funding of the Catholic Diocese of Santorini. The Cultural Centre is housed in Megaro Gyzi in Fira, to one of the few 17th century old family mansions, which survived the earthquakes of 1956. The Cultural Centre mainly aims to the spiritual development, the cultural improvement and the promotion of Thira and its residents.

MEGARO GYZI MUSEUM
The Museum of Megaro Gyzi is situated in the Halls of the Cultural Centre, where six Permanent Exhibitions are hosted.
In particular:
• An exhibition of authentic engravings with maps, landscapes and dresses of the Cycladic islands from the 15th until the 19th century.
• An exhibition of old theraic public and private historical manuscripts from 1573 to 1819.
• A collection of paintings of Santorini, donated by well-known Greek artists, who have exhibited their work in the Cultural Centre.
• A collection of paintings, donated to Megaro Gyzi by Pintos couple.
• A collection of old photographs of scenic Santorini from 1930 to 1956.
• A collection of Santorini´s strata.

The Museum is open from May 1st until October 31st, daily (except Sundays) 10am - 4pm.

MEGARO GYZI EDITION
The Cultural Centre Megaro Gyzi issued recently a new 216 p. publication entitled 'Santorini - Engravings and Drawings by Greek Artists'. This bilingual edition, in greek and english, includes 212 engravings (woodcuts, etchings, lithographs) and drawings by 50 Greek artists, from 1866 to 2007, with Santorini as subject. The texts have been written by the Art Historian Nikos Grigorakis, while the collector Yannis Papaconstantinou, Artistic Director of Megaro Gyzi, was the Editor of the publication. It is available at the Shop of the Megaro Gyzi Museum for € 40.

Pantelias lithographEdiition

LITHOGRAPH
The well-known painter and engraver Miltos Pantelias engraved in 2007, especially for Megaro Gyzi, a lithograph with Santorini as theme entitled 'Ia at Sunset'. This coloured lithograph, in only 99 authentic copies, numbered and signed by the artist, is offered exclusively at the Shop of the Megaro Gyzi Museum for € 100.

MEGARO GYZI FESTIVAL 2009
The Cultural Centre Megaro Gyzi organises also, from 1st till 23rd August, the Megaro Gyzi Festival 2009, which this year includes six music concerts, one painting exhibition and two shadow theatre performances, under the artistic direction of Yannis Papaconstantinou. The entrance is free to all these cultural events, which attract the special interest of the local residents and the tourists.
